Doobie was living at CARA in Mississipi since he was pulled out from under a pile of scrap lumber as a puppy. He is the absolute essence of sweetness and is the chillest and most low-key dog EVER! Doobie was giving kisses while his pictures were being taken and is thoroughly content to just sit by your legs and be petted. His tail wags and wags non-stop as he soaks up love and attention. Sadly, Doobie has spent the last 2 years in this over-crowded no kill animal shelter down south where he quickly became a favorite of all the workers and volunteers. So how is it that Doobie is making his way to Pennsylvania, you might ask? Well, it's been a long and arduous journey, but the nuts and bolts of his story are as follows: One and a half years ago animal -loving Pennsylvania woman visits daughter in Mississippi. Doting daughter takes animal-loving mom to visit this wonderful shelter where no animal (regardless of age, condition or behavior issue) will be put to death (the ONLY one in the geographic proximity that adheres to this policy) Animal-loving mother takes video footage of the 350-some dogs housed in this warehouse-type facility run mostly by volunteers and other animal-loving individuals. Animal-loving mother returns to Pennsylvania and shows video footage to good friend and colleague. Good friend and co-worker watches video footage and says suddenly, Stop! as Doobie comes into view. Co-worker asks animal-loving friend what she can tell her about this dog named Doobie. Animal-loving friend smiles sweetly and with sad and slightly tear-filled eyes talks about this gentle boy who wants nothing more than to be petted and loved. She tells colleague how a shelter worker was told about this shepherd-mix puppy that was dumped in a woodpile and left to fend for itself. Shelter worker promptly left to try to find the pup. Pup was found and brought to the shelter. The above scenario occurred between friends/co-workers over a year and a half ago. I (the co-worker) have never been able to get Doobie's sad eyes and obvious sweet nature out of my head. I promised myself I would find a way to get him to Pennsylvania and find him the forever, loving home that he deserves. All he has known since he was taken to the shelter is his kennel and kennel mate with visits outside to run as volunteers are able to take him. Visitors pass him by and he wags his tail lovingly ... but few fingers poke through the wire to pet sweet Doobie. The little puppies, the lap dogs, the perky little designer dogs ... they all get plenty of visitors and adopters. Dear Doobie is simply overlooked in Mississippi. But his specialness is NOT overlooked by this small group of volunteers (of which I am proud to be a part) who are dedicated to helping these wonderful pets relocate to Pennsylvania where I KNOW someone will see his picture and say, That's the one! ... just like I did when I saw his video out of all the 350 dogs in the footage.
